Obituary of Kathryn "Case" Martin

Kathryn Carol “Case” Martin, of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away August 8, 2021, in Byron, IL. She was born January 29, 1943, to Frank and Pauline Nissen in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Zion-Benton Township High School and attended Kenosha school of Cosmetology. Case was a member for many years of Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church in Wadsworth, IL. Case married Glenn Martin on May 5th, 1958, and they had two children Sue and Glenn, Jr. After the children were married, Case went to work for Bartlett Nuclear as a radiation protection technician. She worked at many of the nuclear plants in the U.S. over the course of 18 years. Upon retirement, she settled back into her hometown in Winthrop Harbor. She relished this time by continuing the legacy set by her parents to keep her door open and the coffee hot for family and friends to discuss and solve the issues of the day. Case is survived by her children, Susan (Larry) Bunner and Glenn (Kelly) Martin; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Criddle, Eric (Kylie) Bunner, Vanessa Bunner, Bear (Erin) Heiser, Amy (Derek) West, Zack (Merissa) Martin, Paige (Andre) Velasquez and Austin Martin; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Nissen; siblings, Betty Ray, Darv Nissen, Claire Smith, Sharon Roy, Ronnie Nissen and Bev Gyger. Visitation will take place Monday, August 16, 2021, at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 12 p.m. with Father Jim Merold officiating. Entombment will take place at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
