Obituary of Mary Ewing

Mary Elizabeth Ewing, 87, of Winthrop Harbor passed away peacefully on Saturday July 24, 2021 at Rolling Hills in Zion IL. She was born on December 21, 1933 in Franklin County, AL. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Herbert Wayne Ewing (whom she married on October 3, 1951); parents Canzada and Irvin Quillin; sister Emergean (Jean) Saint Odom; grandson Scott Ewing; and her niece Deborah (Debbie) Scarborough. Survivors include her sons, Alan (Renee) Ewing of Gurnee, Ron (Maria) Ewing of Beach Park and Doug Ewing of Selma TX; brother Marlous (Sandy) Quillin of Cullman AL; six grandsons Kyle, Justin, Jordan, Jason (Tracey), Geremy and Eric; two great-grandsons Christian and Garett; and nieces and nephews. Mary was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Winthrop Harbor where she was active over the years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Women of the Moose. She worked for many years at Goldblatt’s in Waukegan, then at Olson Oil in Park City and finally at Zion State Bank/First Midwest Bank/PNC Bank in Zion until she retired. She loved to travel. Her favorite trips were to Hawaii and to Israel to see the Holy Land. She loved Gospel music and loved traveling to see various Gospel singers. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandsons and her great grandsons The family would like to thank the staff at Rolling Hills Manor and Star Hospice for their compassionate, kind and loving care. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private for the family.
