Obituary of Larry Joe Miller
Larry “Joe” Miller of Zion, IL was born March 25, 1945 in Poplar Bluff, MO. He graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1962 and married Marcia, his wife of 56 years on February 6, 1965. He received one of the first associate degrees from CLC. Most of his career he worked as a senior systems analyst at Abbott Laboratories. Joe was an avid race car fan, couldn’t pass a slot machine without testing his luck and loved being with and entertaining his family and friends. He always had a joke or a long-detailed story to tell. With his characteristic afro hair style, gold chain and thick glasses he was truly one of a kind. He was a longtime member of the Zion Benton Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Marcia (Allen) Miller, their children Joanna (Raul) Gloria, Edward Miller and Kevin (Lesli) Miller, his grandchildren Shane Miller (Adriana Parsons), Sabrina Gloria (Dillon Romans), Alyson Gloria, Ashleigh (Jr) Meagher, Caleb, Jacob, Ethan and Isaac Miller and his great grandchildren Lylian and Jaxsyn Miller, Also survived by his siblings Billie Simmons, Steve “Kim” Miller and Marcia McCreary, sister-in-law Terry “Skeeter” Allen and many nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Burril and Lena (Schmidt) Miller, his sisters Sue (Charlie) Cox, Linda (Paul) Warren, Julieanne M. (Allen) Walters; brother-in-law Duane (Billie) Allen, Verne Allen, brother-in-law Wayne Simmons, and brother-in-law Robert L. Walters.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Zion Benton Moose Lodge on Friday July 23, 2021 at 11 a.m.
