Obituary of Virginia Mae Grubbs

Virginia Mae (Holcombe) Grubbs, 82, of Gurnee, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Farmington, MO. She was born June 1, 1938 at home in Zion, IL. She retired from the Ann Kiley Center in Waukegan, IL and was a member of The Spirit of Life Church, Zion, IL. Virginia loved feeding the animals in her backyard, hosting the family for holidays and spending time with her MANY grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord and anyone who she encountered, she was the most selfless person and touched many lives. Virginia is survived by her children; Marcella (Scott) Adolphs, Everett Combs, Mary Combs, Sandy Creamer, Maxine Billick, James (Dawn) Combs, Robert (Jessica) Combs, Carla (Dwayne) Karow, David Grubbs; sisters, Lucille Childs, Peggy Lyons; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Philburt; parents, Andrew Holcombe and Cynthia Beryl (Lyons) Holcombe; brothers, James Holcombe, Llyod “Pete” Holcombe; sisters, Alice Holcombe, Ruth Moore, Jean Marie Copen, Dolly Lewallen; son-in-laws Robert Creamer, Mike Billick; grandchildren Robert Allen Gibson, Ralph Lee Conner, Ester Combs; great-grandson Dustin Everett Washburn, Patrick Boyland; many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd Zion, IL. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at her church, Spirit of Life, 1222 Lorelei Drive, Zion, IL with Pastor Sister Phyllis Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL. Flowers may be purchased at FLOWERS WITH LOVE in Kenosha, WI or by calling 262-657-1118. In lieu of flowers, the family would like houseplants to replant in memory of Virginia.
