Obituary of Dorothy Phyllis Crowder Andersson Bird
Dorothy Phyllis Crowder Andersson Bird
June 26,1922-February 11,2021
Dorothy passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021 surrounded by family at the home of her granddaughter Raina Hodgson (Steve).
Dorothy is survived by her 2 sons: George Andersson (Sally) and Rolf A Andersson (Carol) and her 3 granddaughters: Raina Hodgson (Steve), April Jakubisin (Logan) and Laurie Kraenzle (Tom), her stepdaughters: Cindy Barker (Barry Hodnik), Fran Christiansen (Brian) and Diane Nadelhoffer (Greg). Dorothy loved her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and her loyal dog, Buddy.
Dorothy was preceded by her 2 husbands, Rolf Andersson (died 1979) and Roy Bird (died 2016), her son Terry Lee Andersson and stepdaughter Donna Ponticelli.
During her life Dorothy belonged to the loyal Order of the Moose, VFW, the Cradle of Forestry in her beloved North Carolina, several camping groups and most recently The Antioch Senior Center and the Razzle Dazzles Red Hat Group. She made friends everywhere. Dorothy worked for years at Veneman's Gift Shop, Aladdin's Floral Shop in Waukegan and multiple volunteer positions.
Dorothy loved shoes, jewelry, dressing up and surrounding herself with pretty things. She loved the outdoors: gardens, trees and watching the birds. Dorothy worked word search puzzles, enjoyed game shows, old movies and classic TV, especially her favorite, Columbo. During the pandemic she dearly missed her friends at the Senior Center, Red Hat activities and shopping. She was always ready for a game of gin, crazy eights, Yahtzee or maneuver.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will held later this year.
We thank everyone whose company Dorothy enjoyed. Her family appreciates the care given by the Racine Kenosha Aurora Hospice team, especially Molly, Sarah, Angela and Lindsey. Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to: Antioch Senior Center, 817 Holbeck, Antioch, IL 60002.
