Obituary of Barbara Jeanne McDowell

Barbara Jeanne McDowell, 93, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 4, 2020, while under hospice care at the Pavilion Nursing Home in Waukegan, IL. She was born January 12, 1927 in Iroquois, SD, to Christie and Gertrude Wolf. She married Joseph "Joe: McDowell on October 20, 1951. Barbara is survived by her husband, Joe; one daughter, LeAnne (Richard) Christianson; four grandchildren, Shelley (Brandon) Rouse, Jeffrey (Meagan) Christianson, Kristi McDowell, and Michael Christianson; one great granddaughter, Lily Christianson; one sister, Beverly (Atwood) Pitcher; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas McDowell; three brothers, Bernard Wolf, Norman Wolf, and Duane Wolf; and three sisters, Helen Bauer, Thelma Leech, and Marylin Scheck. Barbara worked for H.A. Friend & Co., in Zion, Illinois, where she met her husband, Joe. They spent 69 wonderful years together. She loved to travel and has been to all 50 states, visiting most of them in a travel trailer with her family. Later she visited many parts of the world with Joe. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 Kenosha Road, Zion, IL.
