My most profound sympathies to the John Austin Family. I never knew him personally, yet we had much in common. I, too am retired Navy. John was one friend I followed closely on Twitter and always enjoyed exchanging thoughts with him. I am so sorry for your loss. May Almighty God provide you His peace which passes all understanding in this great loss. -- Dan Moran, Bowdon, GA.

I knew John when I was a Student at Great Lakes Naval Base in 1985. I had just been selected as a Chief and John asked me to try on his old Chief's Uniforms. He had made Chief a few years earlier then got out on a Medical Discharge. His uniforms fit me perfect right down to the length. After making Chief I spent the next 4 years as a Instructor at the same school as John. I purchased them from John and wore them for the next 10 years until my retirement. John was an excellent Instructor I hear. We stayed in touch over the years through Facebook Navy Fire Control Pages.
Rest in Peace Shipmate. This is John's uniform from 1991. John was 1 week older than me.

So sad to hear of another childhood friend and classmate passing. I have such great memories of him and Danny in our younger days playing in the alleys of New Boston until the street lights came on then we knew it was time to go home. RIP John in your new Heavenly home.
