I was very sorry to hear of my cousin's passing. We shared greeting cards and phone calls over the past few years, after having located one another some years back. We were able to share a family reunion in Lake City many years back (25 years ago or so), which was a very special occasion. Many of the older family members are now gone sadly, so I cherish these memories. Boots' Dad was my Mom's brother and we would make occasional trips to Lake City when I was a kid (I am now 70) to visit my Aunt Clara and the family. We always went to Boots' house in Lake City to see his parents. He was out of the house by then (probably in the service by that time) so I don't recall seeing him that much in Lake City.
He was indeed a little grumpy, but most of that was put on I think! He had a heart of gold and was so generous to the people he loved. He was a very good man and I pray he's looking down upon us...with a big smile on his face.
I will miss his greeting cards with all the stickers all over them! They cracked me up! What a guy my "cuz" was and I will miss him.

There are many memories of my dear Uncle Boots. He definitely could be stubborn and a bit ornery just like the obituary states, but we loved him all the same. My sister Joyce mentioned those cookies he brought when he visited us here in MN. The chocolate chip ones were the best. Over the years I am glad I got to spend time with him in person and on the phone. When we talked he always kept me up to date on his grandkids. He was so proud of them. The times I visited him at the Liquor Store (the best place to find him) he made sure everyone that walked in knew that I was his niece from MN. Going out to eat with Boots was an experience. For a little guy he sure could put away the food. I will never forget your reaction the first time you saw the Wave sculpture at Ohuta park in Lake City. All of us in your sister Shirley's family still laugh at that one. Dear Boots I love you and will miss you.

RIP uncle Boots. I will always remember you as loving and caring uncle. You always came to visit every summer and usually brought us lots of cookies. I remember always having to eat at Perkins with you when you came for a visit. I will miss my yearly call on my birthday. I will never forget you!

To the Strawmatt Family,My thoughts and prayers are with you all, at this difficult time, May the Lord hold you in his arms and comfort you all. I remember Boot's from the liquor store, and the Moose Club, and the Tollway. He would always leave you smiling. He always greeted me wherever I was. He was good at small talk. If you said you had a problem, Boot's had advice for you, and it usually was the right advice. He was such a hard worker. He will be missed. I know he's drinking, and tellin storys in Heaven, maybe bartending. R.I.P. My friend
