Obituary of Allene Penttinen

Allene “Gay” (nee Halvorsen) Penttinen passed away July 23, 2020 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. Gay was born July 7, 1948 in Waukegan, IL. Gay was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School. She married Lee Penttinen October 7, 1972. She is a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Waukegan. Gay worked for Bennett Excavating for 8 years and was the co-owner with her husband for Lee’s Enterprises. Gay enjoyed many years of camping and yearly vacations to Cancun with her Lee. As a devoted parishioner, Gay established the Ladies Bible Study Group. Every Wednesday after Bible study, you could find Gay at N&T’s Restaurant in Zion with fellow members. She was a wonderful hostess and welcomed anyone for a swim in her pool. She taught many children to swim and taught a visually impaired swimmer how to dive. Gay was dear friend to all and will be missed by many. Gay is survived by her sister, Vicky Joy Halvorsen of Zion; and special friends, Maggie & Burr, Laureen, Paula, Sarah & Steve and Stevie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Penttinen; and parents, Bernard and Jean Holvorsen. Due to Covid-19, services will be held at a later date.
