Obituary of Gertie I. Cross

Gertie I. Cross, 99, of Zion, Illinois, went home June 28, 2020. Gertie was born January 29, 1921 in Dexter, Missouri. She moved to Illinois in 1957. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ in Bernie, Missouri, Elgin, Illinois and finally Zion, Illinois. Nothing meant more or made her happier than her family and friends all over the world. Gertie was blessed in life seeing over 5 generations of love before her passing. She is survived by her children, Linda Schultz of Anderson, SC and Brenda Benedetto of Zion, IL; grandchildren, Mark (Donna) Schultz, Debra (Wally) Bretzer, Brooke Beauvais Hacker (DJ Hacker), and Brock Benedetto; great-grandchildren, Morgan (Miranda) Beauvais, Makayla (Dakota) Cutbirth, Quinlan and Rialan Beauvais, Phoenix, Miah, Brianna Benedetto, Sophie, and Haylee Benedetto; a great-great-grandson, Elijah Beauvais; and her siblings, Altha Carlew, Lena Schweain, Charles Smith (Pat) and Mary Ellen Stuart; and her sisters-in-law, Amanda Smith and Martha Smith all of Missouri. Gertie was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Corban Beauvais in 1994; her beloved husband, Ross, in 1995; her daughter, Diana, in 2009; son-in-law, Craig Benedetto in 2012; son-in-law, Chuck Schultz in 2020; her siblings, Pearl Parham (John), Opal Crites (Leon), Jim Smith, and Joe Smith, sister-in-law, MaryJo Smith, and brothers-in-law, Doyle Carlew, Bob Stuart. Services will be private for the family.
