Obituary of John R. Hahn

John R. Hahn (Bob) passed away peacefully April 27, 2020 at Rolling Hills Manor. Bob was born in Delphi IN in 1927. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. On October 3, 1947 Bob married Jeanne Heflin. Together they had three daughters. Bob earned his Bachlor’s degree from Manchester College in North Manchester, IN and his Master’s Degree at Indiana University. In 1959 Bob and Jeanne moved their family to Aurora IL where Bob was principal at K. D. Waldo Jr. High. In the summer of 1966 they relocated to Zion IL where Bob accepted a job as principal at Central Jr. High and two years later accepted the position of principal at Zion Benton Township High School. He touched many lives of parents and students in his career and was always available to his school family. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club. He was also a member of Christ Community Church in Zion. He served as usher for many years, volunteered at Camp Zion in Door County and was in the Zion Passion Play. Bob leaves behind 3 daughters, Lucinda (Dick) Marvin of Burke VA, Rebecca (Jim) Sorensen of Boca Raton FL and Barb (Ron) Carlson of Waukegan, IL. Also five grandchildren Jennifer Roberson, Tom Marvin, Doug Marvin, Marie Keyte and Clare Servus, 9 great grandchildren, 3 grand dogs, 6 grand cats and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Jeanne, his parents Jerry and Nellie Hahn, brother Irel, sister Ruth Schoen-Cienek and grandson LCPL Ryan Sorensen. Graveside services will be Thursday April 30, 2020 at Mt. Olivet in Zion. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date. We would like to thank the staff of the 400 hallway at Rolling Hills Manor for the loving care they showed our dad during his time there. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Janet Paxton for her love and care prior to the nursing home. We are requesting donations be made to Camp Zion or the Zion Conservatory of Music both in care of Christ Community Church 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive Zion IL 60099.
