Obituary of Helen Marquiss

Helen Yvonne Marquiss, 81, of Zion, Illinois, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 29th, 2019, with her family by her side.

Born on June 19, 1938, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, she was among the 10 children born to William and Laurel (Gardner) Housley. She grew up in Genoa City, Wisconsin and moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin where she attended Mary D. Bradford Highschool. On April 5, 1958, Helen married Kenton Marquiss at Grace Missionary Church in Zion, Illinois. They raised their family in Zion as active members of Lakeview Church. She was also very active in the community, and served as a member of the Zion Women’s Club and the Zion Historical Society. She worked at Rook’s Restaurant for over 23 years, making many dear friends along the way. When she wasn’t working, she and her husband enjoyed spending their time at their cabin in Lime Ridge, Wisconsin, in “Marquiss Valley”. Among her many talents and interests were gardening, cooking, and of course shopping. Above all else she loved and cherished her family. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Kenton E. Marquiss, her daughters: Trudy Marquiss, and Kenda (Larry) Roy, her grandchildren: Stacy Kellerman (Nick Dowdal), Stephanie (Scott) Pelletier, Emily Landree (Bobby Bergstrom) and Tyler Miller; and great grandchildren: Noah Colson, Madeline Dowdal, and Nicholas Dowdal. Also, her bother, Edwin (Arlene) Housley, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, among them Teenie Clark. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings: brothers, William (Marilyn) Housley, Rev. Clinton (Naomi) Housley, James (Shirley) Housley, Norman (Trudy) Housley, and sisters, Carolyn Housley, Virgine (Ed) McKaig, Fern (Gene) Mitchell, and Nola (Paul) Grasty. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October, 3rd from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Congdon Funeral Home in Zion, Illinois. Interment will be private for the family.
