Gehl married my husband and I, baptized our son, spent time with my Mom before she died and attended my husband's wake when he died. I kept in touch with him throughout the years and he always remembered me and we would pray together on the phone after we moved from Illinois. What a thoughtful, loving man was he. What an honor it was to know him and to have him participate in so many important events in my life along with my family members lives. He helped us so many times when we were at the hospital in Waukegan, and with grief through many losses. At sad times and happy times, Gehl was always there for us. Rest in peace Gehl. Thank you SO much for all of the love and support! You will forever be in my heart.

We were so sad to hear of Dr. Devore’s passing. He married us in 1969 and we have such wonderful memories of that day. We visited with him in Aug. 2015 when my mother was in Rolling Hills. Although his memory was failing, he could recount all of the details of our wedding. He was an amazing man and will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Doris and the family.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. Your father/grandfather was an amazing man. I experienced his ministering in the rehab center with one of my clients and one of our classmates. Such compassion and devotion.
Heaven has a wonderful man now who will watch over his "flock". He will be missed by many.
Prayers and sympathy, Donna

From the Mallory family, our deepest condolences to reverend Devore. He was a great man who served God and helped so many people through his kindness. Working for the Tampa Bay Rays, whenever I saw him he always asked me how my team was doing, but also humourously added a comment about his beloved Yankees. I always enjoyed that about him. I still have my red bible signed by him when I attended Sunday school so many years ago.
Our prayers and sympathy are with all of the Devore family, but also there is our appreciation for a great man who set an example for a life well lived.

I interviewed Dr. Devore for the ZB News for his 100th birthday and found him delightful and with a very sweet countenance. The one thing he said to me that really surprised me was that if he was offered a job right then, he didn't think he'd take it. But he didn't really sound that adamant about it, or seem to think that would be so unusual or unthinkable at his 100 year mark; just that he simply didn't feel much like working anymore and had decided to relax a bit.
