Obituary of Leta Dolores Zika
Leta Dolores Miller Zika of Winthrop Harbor, IL died on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 after a 12 year struggle with Alzheimer’s in Kenosha, Wisconsin at the age of 84. She was born at home on March 4, 1934 in Rosecrans IL, the ninth of twelve children born to Hobart and Edna (Swaney) Miller. She grew up in Zion, IL attending Zion Grade Schools and graduating from Zion Benton Township High School in 1952. On November 29, 1952 she was united in marriage to William Zika, her husband of 66 years, in Waukegan, IL. Together they raised six children; Victoria (Tom) Warburton of Tulsa OK, Kim (Cheri) Zika of Elkhorn, WI, Kathleen (Roger) Whitmore of Wadsworth, IL, Keith Zika of Wadsworth, IL, Kari Zika of Albuquerque, NM, and Trisha (Duane) Billek of Geneva, IL. Dolores is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Marcia Cunningham of Oakland, AR and Nancy Elsbury of Wadsworth, IL.
Dolores loved sewing and made everything from baby clothes to wedding dresses for her family. She worked for many years at Whiteside’s Drapery where she employed her considerable skills sewing custom draperies. After she retired Dolores spent some of the happiest years of her life sitting behind Bill on their Harley Davidson traveling the back roads of Texas.
A reception will be held for family and friends Saturday, February 9th at 2 p.m. in the Grand Vista Ballroom at the Illinois Beach Hotel, 1 Lake Shore Drive, Zion, IL.
