Coach Muff was very special to me. Originally I was not one of the 15 members of the Zee-Bee sophomore basketball team (1973). When he saw how devastated I was we talked and he created a "taxi squad" for 3 more players. With a lot of hard work I went on to play JV, varsity and college basketball and became a High School basketball coach for nearly 30 years. I also work a few summers with him in the Park District maintenance department. What a great sense of humor and a super cool guy. See you again one day Leon, will always remember U!

Our love and support to the entire Muff family -
Leon played such a special role in both our lives and will be missed beyond measure
As my first "boss" in the early 70s at Shiloh Pool, Leon mentored and guided so many of us - the fortunate ones. Greg has truly enjoyed Leon's humor and conversation with the TU morning golf group and hoped one day to emulate Leon's golf skills.
A wonderful, giving man - gone much too soon!

I have many memories of competing against Leon in high school. I was from Geneva and we played against each other for four years. His high school coach was Wally McNaught. Leon was the ultimate competitor gracious in defeat and humble in victory. My condolences to all the family.

We didn't know the coach but his son David. If son is like father he was a wonderful person. David is a gentleman in all sense of the word and reflects the teachings of a caring parent. Sorry for the unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you but especially David, our new Kiwanis Club President.

I taught and coached track with Leon for six years. Those were very enjoyable years, and Leon was a very big reason for that. He was an excellent coach, respected by kids and colleagues. He got a lot out his athletes, and we as a staff enjoyed our years together; whether on the track or on road trips, Leon was a class act, and I was privileged to call him a friend. My condolences to Robyn and the family.

Leon came to ZBTHS my senior year. He coached me in both football and track. He was one of the “good guys”, I wish I had that experience for more than one year. He was more than a coach, he was a friend. Our son Cameron also had Leon through high school. He was lucky, he had that feeling for four years...I wish I did. Leon, I will always remember you with great admiration.

I graduated in 1999, and although I tried my best to not make my way into Mr. Muff's office, there were a few times I found myself talking to him about the future and the world at large. He was always a pleasure to speak to and very warm to me. In my junior and senior year, I worked nights at a local print shop (Academy Studios), and even found myself occasionally cleaning up the artwork for annual Muff Family Christmas t-shirts! I was a young man then, and I didn't understand it- but being that kind to me left an impression of what it means to be a leader and a good person. Two decades later, and two thousand miles away, I will try my best to pass on that inspiration. From my family here in California, I send my sincerest condolences and best wishes to the Muff family.

Uncle Leon was an inspiring coach and teacher to me... he was someone I could share my frustration and joys of teaching/coaching with and he understood. He also shared his advice along with a good story that always made me laugh and put things in perspective! One of a kind, I will miss him.

To the "Muffy" family
Words can't express my sorry of Coach Muffs passing. I am so sorry for your loss and know that he is in a much better place. I truly enjoyed my experience in High School being coached by him, being a manager for him in basketball and coming back to Z-B and coaching with him. What a tremendous person and KING of the one liners! Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time.
