Obituary of James Sherman Hammack

James Sherman Hammack, 79, of Beach Park, IL, died July 20, 2018 at the Captain James A. Lovell V.A. Hospital in North Chicago, IL.

James was born May 23, 1939 in Wakefield, KY.  He previously resided in Salem, IN before moving to Illinois in 1968.  He served in the United States Marines from 1959 - 1963.  James worked for Goodyear for three years, and for George Sheppard Chevrolet in Lake Bluff for 15 years, he retired from Great Lakes Public Works in 1997 after 20 years.  James also worked as a bartender at Idle Hour in Beach Park.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winthrop Harbor.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara Hammack; step-son, William J. Waggoner of Harlan, IA; daughter, Victoria Louise Waggoner-Mumm of Woodbine, IA; grandchildren, Jacqueline Holzer and Thomas Holzer; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Caynden, and Lincoln all of Iowa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 3001 9th St, Winthrop Harbor.  James will be laid to rest in Salem, IN beside his mother, father and family.  Please make donations in place of flowers.
