I was fortunate to get to know Art and Beulah when as I was in highschool and College as we attended the same church. Art was such a kind and positive person in my life always greeting you with that mega wattt smile. Unfortunately we lost touch after I graduated from college and I didn't get to see him or Beulah much except for the odd weekend home here and there. AS my parents were still friends I inquired often. Art you will be and are missed and I know you are in bliss in Heaven.

I, as so many others have been blessed to have this true gentleman in their lives. The impact Mr. Fossland has had in our community and our hearts will live forever. I spent many years with Mr. Fossland and Mr.Jimmie Harris on a local committee. The love they had for Winthrop Harbor and all mankind was something to behold. For many years I would run into Mr. Fossland and he always had that big smile and a how are you and it was genuine from his heart. I use to smile when I would see him driving or walking around the village because I knew a kinder or more humble man was not to be found than him. He was a walking historian on our community and if there was ever a question about the past or founding families he knew it all.
He touched so many over the years with his wisdom, kindness, and continuing support of so many programs from kids and community and the love of his family. I don't think people realize all that he had done over the years.
Mr. Fossland thank-you for sharing a part of your life with us for we all have been touched and forever grateful for knowing you.
Rest peacefully in heaven.

I got to know Art through his marriage to Beulah Ruth Loblaw, as I had been friends of the Loblaw family for years. Beulah Ruth and Art traveled and were very active in church and community pursuits. What impressed me the most was seeing how lovingly he cared for his aging wife and her family became his and the same for her friends. We visited many times in their home and their love for the Lord was evident in everything they did, and everybody they came in contact with. When Beulah passed in 2006, that left a huge gap in my life, as she was a mentor to me since my teens and like a 2nd mom. And I consider Art to be one of the men I admire most. And now, they are both in the presence of Jesus. “Well done, thy good and faithful servant(s).”

Art was an amazing man! We were neighbors for 19 years in Winthrop Harbor. I fondly remember our long talks, and he would often pray with me. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved people and he lived a full life. He was a strong advocate for education and supported each and every Winthrop Harbor school referendum. He will be missed by many, but it is comforting to know that he is now with the Lord. Rest in peace my good and faithful friend.

Art was a schoolmate of my mom, Isabelle (Brock) Rutledge.
She always held him in the highest regard. And over the years, valued his wise council, character, and the optimism he had for Winthrop Harbor, and its people.
I always enjoyed hearing them reminisce about their favorite school teacher, Miss Laura E. Hahn. And growing up during the depression, in the village.
Tough times build character, indeed.
Condolences to all who loved him.

I met Art in 1974. My mother, Helen Walther worked for him at the Zion Benton Hospital and he liked her a lot, when I turned 16 he hired me as well. He used to say I was one of the best hires he ever made as I stayed 42 years at MRMC/CTCA. Art and and his first wife Laura went to Don and my wedding back in 1980. Art always greeted you with a smile, genuinely happy to see you and had a kind word to say about everyone. He always asked about my mom and my family. He was admired and loved by many. A caring man of strong faith and courage with a gentle, loving soul. I am a better person for having known him. Art brought out the best in people. His legacy lives on in the kindness he showed us all. May he RIP. God bless you Art.
