Obituary of Doris J. Schultz
Doris J Schultz, age 84, of Wadsworth, Illinois died peacefully with her family at her side on April 28, 2018 in Waukegan, IL. Doris was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin and resided in Wadsworth for most of her adult life. She was of the first generation in her family to be born in America as her parents emigrated from Germany in the 1920’s. She and her husband Bill were married for more than 65 years and enjoyed a full and loving life together.
Doris is survived by her husband Bill, her children Bill Jr. (Peggie), twins Doreen and Doug (Cathy), grandchildren Kimberlyn, Michael (Mallory), Kristopher (Ellen), Kevin, Kaitlyn, and great grandchildren Mae, Grayson, (and an expected third great grandchild in a few weeks). She is also survived by a sister Nancy (Buford) Chard.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Doris was a friend to many and led a very active life. She loved her large garden of vegetables and flowers spending countless hours there every Summer. Doris also loved to travel, read, work puzzles, cook and bake. She also enjoyed bingo and never passed a slot machine. She and Bill traveled extensively in their retirement years. They racked up thousands of miles driving across every state in America (including Alaska twice) in their motor home and traveled to 92 different countries on all seven continents including Antarctica. Doris was also very active in her community and was extremely patriotic . She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary volunteering many, many hours over countless years on Veterans causes. Doris served in many capacities in the auxiliary on local levels and was President of the Auxiliary Department of Illinois in 1989. She also volunteered her services for several years on the Newport School Board of Education where her children went to grade school. In her career years, Doris was a waitress and hostess at local establishments including Howard Johnson’s, Midlane Country Club, and Glen Flora Country Club. Midway through her working career, Doris earned her Commercial Real Estate License. She then worked at the Waukegan/Lake County Chamber of Commerce starting there as a secretary and leaving ten years later as the Vice President of the Chamber. Doris was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.
