Obituary of Donna Susan Nissen

DONNA SUSAN NISSEN

It is with great sadness that the family of Donna S. Nissen (née Shirling) of Winthrop Harbor announce her passing on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the age of 71, in Mesa, Arizona with her loving family by her side.

Donna was born on July 5, 1946 in Waukegan, Illinois to William and Helen Shirling. She was the youngest of four children.

Donna attended Holy Family Grade School in North Chicago and when her family moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, she graduated from Tremper High School. Donna married the love of her life, Ronald L. Nissen on September 12, 1964 at Our Lady of Humility Church in Zion. They were blessed with two adoring sons, Timothy J. Nissen and Kevin R. Nissen. For many years Donna worked along side her husband at North Shore Excavating. She was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Zion. Donna enjoyed gardening, reading, computer games, long walks, and most of all she loved being with her family.

Donna is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ron Nissen, her beloved sons Tim (Melissa) Nissen of San Tan Valley, AZ and Kevin Nissen of Park Ridge, IL and her treasured grandchildren Daulton, Briana, Emma and Alec. She is also survived by her sisters Gladys (Norman) Flament of Antioch, Rosalie (Ronald) Bosner of Zion, her brother James Shirling of Sun City West, AZ, her sister-in-law Kathy Martin of Winthrop Harbor and many nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her father William Shirling in 1987 and her mother Helen (Behnke) Shirling in 1992.    

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Zion, IL.  Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Interment will be held following the mass at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
