Obituary of Leonard Eschenbauch
Eschenbauch, Leonard L. 90 of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away on March 21, 2018 at Rolling Hills Manor.
Leonard was born on August 23, 1927 in White Lake, WI and graduated from White Lake High School in 1945. He joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school and served for 7 years.
In 1950 he married the love of his life, Wanda Strean, and upon his discharge from the service in 1952 they settled in Winthrop Harbor, built a home and stayed there for the rest of their lives. He was employed with Nash in Kenosha and remained there through all their changes, retiring in 1990 from Chrysler. Leonard and Wanda were charter members of Our Lady of Humility Church which occurred in 1954 and have been with the church ever since. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Leonard never forgot a birthday or an anniversary and had all the dates memorized. He had a remarkable mind and lived for family reunions. He loved family. In his day he was a marvelous bowler, an avid golfer and he LOVED cribbage. There were those who were still waiting to beat him at a game.
Survivors include his children, Karen (Rolland) Richardson of Grayslake, IL, Gregory (Karen) Eschenbauch of Clovis, NM, Dianna (Andy) Savage of Alpharetta, GA, Brian Eschenbauch (friend Vicki Oberstadt) of Appleton, WI and Cindy Pocklington (friend Ernie Garner) of Winthrop Harbor, IL; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, James (Judy) Eschenbauch of White Lake, WI; sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Lake Villa, IL; brother-in-law, Doug Lewis from SC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda of 63 years; his parents, Charles and Agnes Eschenbauch; brothers, Ralph (Ester), Donald (Vera) and Tim (Barb) Eschenbauch; sisters, Doris (Lou) Foster and Kay Lewis; and son-in-law Donald Pocklington.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 28th 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion IL. Friends may greet the family from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
