Obituary of Florence Furlan

Florence Katherine Furlan, 86, of Beach Park, IL died on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. Florence was born November 16, 1925 in North Chicago, IL and moved to Beach Park in 1956. She married the late Frank J. Furlan Sr. on September 22, 1945 at Holy Rosary in North Chicago. She was a long time active member of Our Lady of Humility Church of Beach Park, IL. She and her husband owned and operated Furlan Brothers Excavating of Beach Park from 1947 until 1972. Florence was always active in her children's school over the years as a room mother, Girl Scout leader, and many other activities as well. She enjoyed playing the piano and on occasion would play piano at various Supper Clubs in the area. Survivors include children Patricia Sandy of Burlington, WI, Lawrence Furlan of Beach Park, IL, and Frank J. Furlan Jr. of Gurnee, IL; son-in-law Douglas Leech of Winthrop Harbor, IL; six grandchildren Bill Sandy, Chris (Scott) Rechter, Brian Sandy, Dan Sandy, Katie Leech, and Tim (Britteny) Leech; six great-grandchildren Joe, Anna, Carson, Jordan, Breanna, and Kayla; and many loving friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Frank J. Furlan Sr. in 1996; her daughter Barbara Leech in 2007; one sister Irene Krpan; and her father and mother John and Catherine Thiel. Visitation will be Friday, November 16, 2012, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, November 17th, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
