Obituary of Dexter Brian Knox
Dexter Brian Knox, 74, of Beach Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
He was born on September 27, 1943, to the late Daniel and Madelyn (Manthey) Knox. Dexter attended Zion schools, graduating from Zion Benton High School. He attended college at Marquette University and Southern Illinois University, and served honorably in the United States Navy.
Dexter was a great participant in life. He worked for UPS for 26 years, making friends up and down his route. He was passionate about books, movies, and music. He was a drummer and really enjoyed Jazz music. He acted and sang in Waukegan's St. Bartholomew's/Waukegan Community players, and later in the Zion Passion Play and the Christ Community Church Choir. He cheered on the Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks.
Later in life he fully committed his life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was very involved in his church. He thoroughly enjoyed serving the youth at Christ Community Church and spending time at one of his favorite places on earth, Camp Zion in Door County, Wisconsin. He served in a maintenance position at the church until his health no longer permitted.
He was generous at heart, glad to lend a hand or whatever he could to friends and family. His wit, his ability to think deeply, and his slightly irreverant humor left few as strangers once they met him.
Dexter is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Steve) Ottersen; grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew; brothers, Doug (Connie) and Dan; sister-in-law, Doris; a niece and many nephews. He is further survived by his dear cousin, Barb, and her family; and many close friends whom he considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Madelyn Knox; brother, Richard; and sister-in-law, Jean.
