Obituary of Vondal Lee Lawson
Vondal Lee Lawson, age 65 of Libertyville, Illinois passed away October 13th 2017 in Zion, IL while recovering from a May 2017 diabetic stroke. Vondal Lawson was born October 1, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Lee Jennings Lawson and Darlene Zelda Bowen Lawson. As a child he, with his parents, moved to Waukegan, IL. After his parents’ divorced, his mother married Frederick Winters who became Vondal’s mentor and father figure. While attending Waukegan High School Vondal enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving over six years active duty in the Caribbean, Hawaii, and during the fall of South Vietnam. After an honorable discharge Vondal returned to the Waukegan area to work many years as a Pinkerton investigator, legal process (papers) server, and automobile locator. In his late thirties Vondal developed a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ that became central to his earthly life and the hope of eternal life. Sergeant Lawson is survived by and will be missed by his step mother Velma Jean Lawson Wade and five half-sisters: Sandra, Sheila, and Kimberly Lawson of Lake Station, IL, and Sharon and Karen Winters of Newark, Ohio. There will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National (Veterans) Cemetery, Elwood, (Joliet) Illinois at 10:00 A.M., Thursday October 26th, 2017. Congdon Funeral Home of Zion, IL is in charge of funeral arrangements.
