Obituary of Robert DeWitt
Robert B. DeWitt, 88, of Zion, IL died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at home following a long illness.
Robert was born May 24, 1924 in Chicago. He married Betty McCormack of Zion on May 6, 1950 in Waukegan. He was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church of Beach Park. He retired in 1979 after 30 years with Civil Service at Great Lakes. Robert was a member of Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Naval Air where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and four air medals. Robert was also a Junior Bowling Coach for over 40 years and he was inducted into the Lake County Bowling Hall Of Fame in 1996. He also served as a Midwest Racing Official for 37 years and was elected in 2012 to the Southeastern Wisconsin Short Track Hall Of Fame.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Betty J. DeWitt; children Richard (Julie) DeWitt of Kenosha, WI and Judy (Ted) Kasperczyk of Winthrop Harbor, IL; four grandchildren David DeWitt, Mark and Eric Kasperczyk, and Marguerite (Scott) Tagawa; two great-grandchildren; and one brother Fred (Audrey) DeWitt of Kenosha, WI.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred J. DeWitt in 1961 and Ella Burns DeWitt in 1960; and by one brother John DeWitt in 2003.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL. Interment will follow at Benton-Greenwood Cemetery, Benton Township. Visitation will be Saturday, October 20th, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at Our Lady of Humility Church.
