Obituary of June Marie Smith

June Marie Smith, 87, of Wadsworth, IL died July 13, 2017 at home with her girls by her side.

She was born June 24, 1930 in Waukegan, IL and has been a life long resident of this area. She was married to Leslie Smith for 48 years before his death in 1999. June enjoyed her once a month luncheons with her neighborhood friends, crafts, knitting, and her Dachshund, Ginger.

Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Tierney, Shirley (Gordy) Beach, Nancy (Don) Sponenburg, Mary (William) Wojnarowski; grandchildren, Jenny (Brad) Buntrock Katie (Danny) Biddle, Bob (Daisy) Tierney, Jared (Elizabeth Darrow) Beach, Joe (Cammie) Sponenburg, Dan (Amanda) Sponenburg, Crystal (Ben) Dillon, and Billy (Lisa Plumley) Wojnarowski; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Evan Buntrock, Payton and Makenzie Biddle, Elise Tierney, and Andrew, Zachary, and Joshua Dillon; sister, Delores (Robert) Serdar; son-in-law, Pat Tierney; a dear friend, Dick O’Neil; and all the great-grand babies to come.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; parents, Lester and Marie Mitchell; and brother, Robert Mitchell.


A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Heartland Hospice, 2100 Sanders Rd., Suite 100, Northbrook, IL 60062 has been suggested.
