Obituary of Edna Ezell-Brewer

Edna Ezell-Brewer, on April 23rd, Edna “Greatma” Ezell-Brewer, 84, of Winthrop Harbor, went to sleep for her final rest. Edna was born March 16, 1933 to Henry and Minnie Jones in Tupelo, MS. In 1950, Edna married Cecil Ezell, and until death did they part in 1996. Cecil and Edna had four children; Henry Ray, Mary, Nancy Ann and Cecil Ray Jr. Cecil served as a volunteer Firefighter in Winthrop Harbor, Edna served as Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary and excelled in her career as a Real Estate Broker. Edna also excelled in Grandmothering, thus earning a promotion to the title of “Greatma” to seven “greatkids” Daniel (Dannielle) Swim, Charity Willenburg, Kevin Krueger, Rebecca Teschler, Sylvia (James Walldan) Volakis, Edna Volakis and Mykal Volakis. Greatma was a Great-Greatma to Shawn, Haley, Corey, Madison and Jacob Swim, Dylan May and Morgan Maksimovic, Kayla Robinson, Robert and Cody Hadley, Vincent Teschler and Summer Krueger. Edna always held very dear to her heart her surviving sister Maybell, brother Odell, sister-in-law Kathy Jones and many nieces and nephews. In 2006, Greatma married Norman Brewer Jr and they remained together until his passing in 2013. Edna was always one to far surpass expectations and will forever be remembered as a Greatma that was tough as nails. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road., Zion, IL, and Friday, April 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Benton Greenwood Cemetery.
