Obituary of Peter B Soehl

Peter B. Soehl, 67, of Zion, IL died on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Peter was born September 25, 1949 in Bremevorde, Germany. After coming to this country at the age of 3, his family lived in Pennsylvania and in the Bronx before he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 at Great Lakes, IL. During his military career he served in various places as a Corpsman including Vietnam and 5 years in Japan. He retired at Great Lakes after 21 years of service with the Navy. Following his military service he worked as a Medical Technologist at American International Hospital (now Midwestern Regional Medical Center) in Zion, and St. Catherine’s Hospital (now United Hospital Systems) in Kenosha, retiring in 2007. He married Paula Newman on November 28, 1970 at St. Pat’s in NYC. During his military career both Peter and Paula also enjoyed stage acting in various plays. Survivors include his wife of 46 years Paula; children Marc (Melissa) Soehl of Round Lake, IL and Courtney (Andy) Blaul of Kenosha, WI; five grandchildren Kaelyn, Kelsie, Alex, Mackenzie, and Evan; one sister Anita (Michael) Hegarty of Briar Cliff Manor, NY; and three nephews Matt, Sean, and Tim. He was preceded in death by his parents Johann and Emily Söhl. Visitation will be Monday, April 10, 2017, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
