Obituary of George M. Raether

George M. Raether, 91, of Waukegan, IL died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. He was born July 7, 1925 in Lake Forest, IL and graduated from Lake Forest High School. After high school, George joined the United States Navy in 1943. He married Gladys Wichmann on August 7, 1948 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Skokie, IL. He worked for The Chicago Northwestern Rail Road and retired after 40 years, He was a member and volunteered for the DAV, a past member of the Moose Club in Waukegan, and a member of the Hy-Rollin Van’s where he enjoyed socializing, camping functions and friendship. George enjoyed woodworking, nature, camping in his RV with Gladys, maintaining his yard, and old County Western music along with his extensive vintage record collection. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; children, Patricia (Stephen) Lapish, Linda Raether, and Donald (Donna) Raether; One niece and one nephew; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many family friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Raether; sister, Ruth “Rae” Torfin; and his parents, George and Martha Raether. Services will be private for the family.
