Obituary of Jeffery V. Richter

Jeffery V. Richter, 62 of Waukegan, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Vista Health Center. Jeff was a devoted father, grandfather, son and brother. He was the oldest of four siblings and born on June 13, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1972 and then went on to earn his B.A in theatre from the University of Miami, and an M.A. from the University of Illinois. Jeff was incredibly bright and creative, an avid reader, and very passionate about the arts. In the late 1980’s he began a children’s theatre company called the Little Fort Lamplighters where he used his talents to direct plays at the Genessee theatre. He also performed in multiple local plays with the Community Players. He shared his love for theatrics with his children and grandchildren through literature and storytelling. Another of Jeff’s favorite activities was playing handball with his dad, brothers and friends at the YMCA in Waukegan. Jeff was a loving father and he was extremely proud of his three children, Erin (Jeremy) Jorgensen of Minocqua, WI; Ramona (Enzo) DeCristofaro of Lake Zurich, IL; and Reginald (Hannah) Richter, of Dubuque, IA; and his four granddaughters, Molly and Jaime Jorgensen, Edea and Graziana DeCristofaro. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Richter of Waukegan, IL; his brother Randall (Susan) Richter of Muncie, IN; and his brother Scott (Katy) Richter, of Waukesha, WI; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Eddie Richter, and sister, Rhonda (Rod)Wood. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, March 19th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral home located at 3012 Sheridan Rd. in Zion, IL.
