Our deepest condolences to the entire Cankar family. There are no words that can express the loss that we all feel at this moment.
Doug was one of those unique individuals that brought a smile with him wherever he went. His sense of humor, and outlook on life, were a joy to be around. Doug was not only a co-worker to Linda and I, he was and always will be family. His memory will live in our hearts forever!
Grief never ends..... but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith.... It is the price of love!
Until we meet again Doug...
We will all love and miss you!
Dave and Linda

If a legacy is based on how people remember you, then what a legacy Doug left. The stories my father (Terry Corbit) and others told of working in Warranty At OMC, were beyond funny. How they tormented upper management, filled one co-workers convertible with all of their garbage for the day, and being chased by baby alligators sent by a Johnson dealer from Raceland Louisiana. At the heart of all the pranks was Doug Cankar. A kind and generous man with a child like sense of humor, who reminded us all to laugh. Laugh every day.

We are so sorry to hear of Doug's passing but rejoice in knowing he is with the Lord Jesus Christ who Doug loved with all his heart. I can not remember anytime seeing Doug when he would not have a smile, joke or loving concern for me and our family. One very special memory Amy and I have is when he volunteered to drive us around Chicago on the night Amy and I were engaged and then for our wedding. He made lives beautiful the world was a better place because of him. May the Lord bless you with countless memories of great, man, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Doug made me feel welcome when I joined Johnson Outboards' Customer Service Department, Plant 3 in 1978. Fondly remember his grin, twinkle in his eyes, humorous greetings and his unique walking style. Very special person. RIP Doug.

I met Doug in 1967 at Waukegan Marine. He would visit Saturdays and watch me repair outboards. He claimed he learned most everything about outboards from me.
No discussion about Doug is complete without a story. At Johnson Outboards one of Doug's warranty reps liked to get away from the phones. He would deliver paper work to the repair department and usually enjoy a cigar along the way. Doug always said, "If you see Ralph, tell him I said Hi." Everyone remembers Doug's peppy stride, the wave and comment "tight schedule." A good listener and a friend you could count on. R.I.P. Doug. Michael J

I am so sorry for the loss of Doug. I loved him and cherished his friendship. He always made me laugh and taught me to be proud of my gifted Billy Bob teeth. I know that he is now pain-free, healthy and will spend eternity with our Lord.

Please accept my sincere condolences. At times like these, "God is near to those who are broken at heart; And those crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34:18) I hope this will bring you a measure of comfort. “Death is an enemy”, as the Bible states, and “soon it will be brought to nothing” (1 Cor. 15:26) There will be no more tears, pain, or sorrow, as the former things will be passed away-Rev. 21:3,4.May your warm memories and sure scriptural hope sustain you at this difficult time.

I knew Dougs dad before i knew Doug. His dad was probably the best fisherman i know. I worked with Doug for a lot of his years at OMC. He was a thoughtful person and helped me more then l helped him.I think that was the way he was.he helped a lot of people. He always had a smile and a story to tell.I enjoyed listening.I last saw doug at the sunset house with a group of johnson motors people.I had not seen him in several years so it was good to reconnect.I am truely saddened by this news. My hart goes out to his family and loved ones.

When we lose a loved one here on earth we gain an angel in heaven to watch over us. May you take comfort in knowing that you have an angel to watch over you now and for the memories you have. I extend my most sincere condolences to Doug's entire family. He was a long time friend of my late husbands father, Bill Scheske and to me as well. He will be missed by many.
