Obituary of Anne Vanderhoef

Anne Jeanette Vanderhoef, 69, of Beach Park, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL. Anne was born February 18, 1943, in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised at Dumbarton and Gourock, Scotland. She graduated as a Registered General Nurse at Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland in 1965. Anne married Richard "Van" Vanderhoef who was assigned to the Submarine Base at Holy Loch, Scotland, on June 5, 1965. They became husband and wife at Old Gourock Parish Church. (The marriage lasted 47 years) In January 1966 she accompanied Van to his numerous Naval career assignments. After obtaining her Illinois Nursing License she served for twenty five years at Victory Memorial Hospital (Vista Medical Center East) as a Registered General Nurse and then as a Mental Health Nurse at Vista West. Anne was known for her warm, caring demeanor and professionalism and was often called a nurse's nurse. After many Naval assignments, Anne and Van settled in Beach Park, IL. Survivors include her husband, Richard "Van"; two sons, Richard James Vanderhoef and Robert Thomas (fiancé, Lisa Zebedee) Vanderhoef; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Vanderhoef. She was preceded in death by father and mother, James W. Turnbull and Isabella Mailer Turnbull. (nee, Harden) A Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment will be private and take place in Gourock, Scotland. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Anne's name to the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, Knight Templar Foundation, or the Masonic Service Association (V.A. Hospital Visitation Program-Illinois)
