Obituary of Emmett D. O’Neill

Emmett D. O’Neill, 72, of Beach Park, IL died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at home with his family by his side. He was born July 11, 1944 in Marquette, MI. He moved to Waukegan in the mid 60's for work at Dexter Corp. Emmett entered the United States Army in 1968 and served in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he returned to Waukegan and his job at Dexter, where he worked for the next 34 years. Emmett was also a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church where he was an usher and belonged to the Men’s Club. He was also a member of Homer Dahringer Post 281, Waukegan. Survivors include his wife of 45 years Gail; children Rick O’Neill of Beach Park, IL and Barbara (Jim) Kennedy of Wind Lake, WI; three grandchildren Abby (Fiancé Keith Strasser) Kennedy, Rachel Kennedy, and Jamie Kennedy; sisters Margaret (Gerald) Keller of Marquette, MI, Maureen “Cathy” (Robert) Hofer of Gwinn, MI, and Eileen “Lynn” O’Neill of Marquette, MI; brother-in-law Fred Melka of Negaunee, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother John O’Neill; three sisters Roberta “Bobbi” Zorza, Geraldine “Deanie” Melka, and Patricia “Pat” Bigger; and his parents Robert and Elizabeth O’Neill. Services will be held at a later date with burial in Marquette, MI.
