Obituary of Nettie Armstrong

Nettie Armstrong, 95, of Zion, IL went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, March 5, 2017. She was born January 24, 1922 in Red Bay, AL and came to Zion in 1950. She was a longtime member of Zion Revival Center of Zion where she also taught Sunday School. Nettie retired in 1984 after 32 years at Abbott. She enjoyed traveling with the Zion Senior Citizens under Chuck Paxton's leadership. Nettie also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and was an excellent cook. Survivors include two sons James (Caroline) Armstrong of Winthrop Harbor, IL and Larry (Robin) Armstrong of Tuscumbia, AL; 5 grandchildren Rev. Brad (Barb) Williams, Lisa (Steve) Shaw, Jim (Christina) Armstrong, Jacob (Catherine) Armstrong, and Carrie (Brandon) Baez; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother James (Bonnie) Strickland of Red Bay, AL; one sister Hettie Lee Pentegraph of Red Bay, AL; Betty (James) Davis whom Nettie considered a daughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Armstrong in 1982; nine brothers and sisters; and her parents Bose and Molsey Strickland. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Further visitation will be Friday, March 10th, 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. , followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Dean Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay, AL with burial following in Halltown Cemetery, Vina, AL.
