Obituary of William Walter Pietschman

William Walter Pietschman, 74, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion surrounded by family and friends. William was born August 31, 1942 in Waukegan. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1960. A Veteran, William served with the United States Army. On December 20, 1969 he married Carolyn J. Weaver in Zion. For many years he served as a AWANA leader at Lakeview Church and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor. He retired after 32 years at Johnson Outboards and he retired from Abbott after 5 years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, jogger, fisherman and collector of baseball sports memorabilia and he enjoyed the outdoors and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife Carolyn; son Kevin (Carrie) Pietschman of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren Bridget, Jolie, and William Pietschman; sister Arlene Grabowski of Beach Park, IL; life-long friend Spencer Krelle and Wayne Thomas; and his beloved dog and companion, “Murfee”. He was preceded in death by son Michael Pietschman; father William Frank Pietschman and mother Dorothy (nee Ruesch) Macek; step-father Steve Mason; brothers Ronald and Larry Pietschman; and brother-in-law John Grabowski. Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. The family extends a special thank you to Doctors Engstrom, Dunlop, and Paxton, as well as Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home, especially the 400 Hall staff.
