Please receive my condolences. I worked at a Bank in Zion for about 16 years and I got the pleasure of helping both, Mr. & Mrs. Shaffer all those years. I will always treasure all the good conversations we had and the pleasure of knowing both of them. I will keep you all in my prayers for your comfort during this difficult time. I still work at that Bank just in a different office, please let me know if you need anything I would be happy to help. Sincerely, Elsa Soto

May the light continue to brightly shine is the prayer from an eternally grateful eldest niece who had the honor as a 5-year old to be a flower girl in the wedding of Aunt Arlene and Uncle Ralph. Their joy as a couple radiated with happiness and love through all their 60 years of marriage, making every life they touched feel special. The strong family bond they cultivated was woven into the Greatest Generation, with highly admirable contributions to home, church and country, providing strength not only in the fabric of their lives, but setting the example for loved ones in generations to follow.
Arlene Noteboom Shaffer brought competence and joy to her professional and leadership roles as she actively contributed to social needs in her community at large and family throughout all her years. Her greatest happiness was wrapped up in her love for family, ever grateful to God for each one. She provided a rich example of a life well lived, and the best apple pie ever! The family will miss her presence but gain from her presents of examples in living left behind, forever grateful for sharing her best with us and allowing us to find the path she walked. We will do our best to follow.

Sweet Aunt Arlene, you'll never know how bright Jesus' light shown through you and you'll never know to what depths. I will miss you.
