Well Ric. today we come to say goodbye until we meet again. How will we make it through it, I don't know, you will not be there to be our rock. Packing up the dreams God planted in the fertile soil of life. I can't believe the hopes he's granted mean a chapter in your life is done. We'll keep you close as always because our hearts in big and small ways will keep the love that keeps us strong. Though it's hard to let you go in the father's hands we know you are in a better place, walking, dancing, riding your bikes and being happy. It has been so hard and painful to watch you over the past in so much pain and barely living a life. You were a real trooper you kept on going as we watched you in pain feeling so helpless and not knowing what to do. I'm glad you were such a big part of my life for so many years. I'll always regret not being with you for that one last surgery, I had been there for every other one. When you passed I wanted so bad to come and say goodbye with everyone but we knew it was impossible I was too far away. I can find comfort that I spoke to you right before they took you to surgery on Sunday, May 29th. I spoke to the nurse and asked if I could speak with you. I told you I loved you and I would talk to you after surgery and see you when I got back in town and you would not be there alone. You said "I love you and okay." And for the first time I didn't hear the fear in your voice as I did before every other surgery. I do love you and I will see you again someday! One last thing I have to say, thank you for taking care of my Mom, she loved you and I know how much you loved her. You both are together in a better place. I will love you always!

Dad, I feel like there is so much I want to say to you. When I start to type or think of what to say I just cry. Whenever I was really sad, you were always able to make me feel better. I wish you were here now. It is hard to believe that you are gone. Who am I supposed to call now when I am driving? Or, when a repair guy comes to the house? You always wanted to know the name of the repair guy, just in case. Even though we did not live close, I always knew you were there for me. I am so grateful that the last few months we had gotten closer, our conversations better. Although I am sad that you are gone, I am happy to know that you are watching over me. You are on your motorcycle, your hair is looking Awesome, and you have a big smile on your face because you are at peace. Your life was full of people who loved you, and know that we will be thinking of you everyday. I love you, forever and ever-Charo

I decided to wrote on here because I don't believe I can stand and talk tomorrow. I'm taking comfort in knowing that your probably right over my shoulder reading what I'm writing. I just want to say I'm sorry . For anything and for everything. I was always looking for the best for you. Even when it didn't seem as if that's so. I forgive you. For the times that you struggled with Your own demons. You can go in peace. You will be missed. I know Your pain free. Please continue watching over us . Now ride out in paradise on your bike. I love you - Crystal

Our heartfelt thank you to everyone for their kind words. Dori Miller (helped us get our loan), Ric loved you. Greg, his Navy buddy, Phyllis, his childhood classmate, our Cousins, our old neighborhood friends, Dee Schulz, David Schulz, etc. His brother in law, Rick Biederer, I know he loved you like a Brother. My Brother probably didn't even know how much he was loved. He will be so greatly missed.
He was my Brother. I talked to him on the phone often. I want to pick up the phone and call him. I might just want to talk or ask him a question about the in's and out's of buying a house. He sold us our home. He sold my Son his home. He recently sold his Nephew his first home.
But to be honest, we will miss "HIM". My heart aches because he is no longer on this earth. He is no longer on the other end of the phone. A part of me went with him. It feels like a piece of the puzzle is missing and it will never be found on this earth. One day I will find the piece of that puzzle. It won't be here on earth. It will be in Heaven right beside him. The last time I saw Ric was Saturday afternoon May 29th. I told him I would check on him later that evening. I was 10 minutes away and got the call that they took him in for emergency surgery. I rushed back to Loyola Hospital. I didn't get to see him but I waited in the surgery waiting room. Then the Doctor came out.......the most gut wrenching works I have ever heard. His heart stopped twice. The second time was the last time. Doctor said "he didn't make it, His heart was too weak." Now, my heart aches. I love you Ric. I will see you someday again. I hope you have the Black and White Indian Motorcycle up there. You will have 2 legs so I want a ride! I hope you are dancing up there. Good bye my Big Brother. Peace be with you. No pain, no worries. I love you. Your Sister, Susan.

From the sixth grade though high school, we shared homerooms. We did not meet again until our 25th or so high school reunion. One of the few classmates that I remember having so much joy. He shared a comment to me on Facebook a few days before he went into the hospital. Through all the years from the sixth grade, I'm glad we still had that bond. My heart is sadden. My condolences to Ric's family, he will surely be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ric's family and friends who are feeling the pain of Ric's passing at tis time. God Bless and comfort you at this time. I share memory of Ric coming to Taylorville, Il for my father (James Gilbert Best) 90th. birthday celebration. Ric rode his motorcycle out to Manners Park to wish "Happy Birthday" to my dad and he made my dad especially happy by doing so. I know Ric leaves many happy loving memories to all who love him !!
