Obituary of Florence Brown

Florence Gene Brown (nee Grubbs). At Peace In The Mansion of The Lord. 89, of Gurnee, went to be with the Lord on August 19th, 2012 at the Terrace Nursing Home of Waukegan. She was born in Blanche Kentucky on September 16th 1922, the first child of Bessie Frye and Allen Grubbs. She had been a life-long homemaker and was a fervent Prayer Warrior. She was a member of Spirit of Life Church in Zion, IL. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Donna Ray, Charles (the late Jacqueline) Brown, John (Patricia) Brown, Ray (Irene) Brown; sisters, Mary Norvell, Carla Gross, Glenna (the late Joseph) Miller; brother, Philburt (Virginia) Grubbs, daughter-in-law, Beverly Brown; grandchildren, Angela Ray, Daniel Ray, Sharon Thrash, Timothy Haynes, Charlene Brown, Charles Brown Jr., Jason Brown, Laura Brown, Phillip Brown Jr., Kyle Brown, Christine Brown, Phyllis Davis, Heather Brown, Jonny Brown, Leif Simonitsch, Amanda Brown, Angelina Brown and Jacob Brown, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, and by her beloved husband of 52 years, Marvin Brown; by her daughter, Carol Haynes; sons, Sonny Brown, William Brown, Phillip Brown; granddaughter, Melissa Brown, sisters Hollie Collett and Ellen Miller; brothers, Arnold Grubbs, Charles Grubbs, Custer Grubbs and William Grubbs. Florence also had five brothers, Allen Grubbs, Paul Grubbs, Marvin Grubbs, Phillip Grubbs, Lonnie Grubbs, and one sister, Mary Grubbs who died as infants. Visitation will be Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Spirit of Life Church, 1222 Lorelei Drive, Zion, with Pastor Phyllis Miller officiating. Music will be by Paul Curtis Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be greatly appreciated.
