To Pam, Ken, Mya, Jordan and Ian Zukley,
I am so sorry for your beloved Father, and Grandfather's passing. It seems that all of the great people as we know it are leaving this earth and moving on to better places. I did get to meet him and from what I remember from our youth ; he was a wonderful soul. I'm sure he will be greatly honored and missed by all. The name Raymond has followed me through my life with three important people in my life. So I feel a strong connection to a spirit guide in some great level. They all are specail souls. Find it in your hearts to recognize the wonderful and joyous memories you all made together. Spirit is listening.
Sincerely and with Love,
Your dear friend,
Joshua William Phillips

Sandy and Rich,
We are so sorry for your loss. We will always remember Ray and your mom for their friendliness and hospitality. Their visit to us in Alaska is a very fond memory. And being able to escort a Marine veteran of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima around the base was an honor and a pleasure. We wish we could have been there for his sending off. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Having lived over 50 years in Zion before moving to Andrews, NC, I remember Ray and Irene Zukley well. My dad (Karl Richert) was manager of the Zion-Benton NEWS back when Gypsy Days and Jubilee Days, and so many of the other wonderful events that the Zukleys were instrumental in getting started, were implemented. I have fond memories of hiding Easter eggs in Shiloh Park at 6 o'clock on those Saturday mornings with the Zukleys and many other Chamber members. Ray was one of the chief cooks at the annual Exchange Club steer roasts, too. May many fond memories sustain you family members in the days ahead!

An angel he is.
I'll always remember him as such an independent, outgoing, happy man that I too called grandpa Zukley. And I'll never forget, each and EVERY time I saw him he would always ask me, "Are you still flippin and spinnin"?! He was referring to my gymnastics career and it always made me smile; he always made me smile.
Forever known as a wonderful man and a hero, in our hearts forever.

A beautiful person has left our midst, but not before leaving a most memorable legacy behind. Ray can only be described as one of a kind, a person who stayed true to his belief in God, America and mankind. He was involved in many community projects; those that weren't available he and Irene started on their own. What would Zion have been without a yearly Easter egg hunt for our children each year, or if we had no fire department? There are so many accomplishments for the betterment of our City that would never have taken place if not for Ray.
It was my privilege to volunteer with Ray beginning in 1990. He constantly offered to do special projects; a special one was to engrave the names of all 5-year cancer survivors and attach them to the four trees located in the hospital entrance.
I'm going to miss you Ray! I am so glad I took special time to visit with you and Irene at our Volunteer Banquet in April (2016). Little did I know it would be my last conversation with a man I truly admired. My love and condolences to you and your family Irene. May God bless you all!

My prayers and condolences to all of the Zukley family. Growing up in Zion (50's-70's) brings with it many memories, especially of downtown and all of the people and businesses, events and activities that made it a great place to be. Ray Zukley was not only a proud citizen of his country and community, he was a Christian gentleman, and a role model. He takes his place among those who made Zion a great place to live and call home. I grieve with you now but also rejoice in the resurrection hope we have in Christ.

Irene, Sandy, Tadd and family, I am so very sorry for your loss! What a great man and unfortunately for me, the best jeweler! We bought an engagement ring and wedding bands from this hard working, honest man and I was saddened when Zukley's closed!
I will miss seeing him at the Veteran's Day celebrations and other events around town!
Thank you Mr. Zukley for your service!
He will be missed!

With our sincere condolences to the entire Zukley family.
My father, Sam Schiera, used to be in the Zion American Legion with Mr. Zukley; both of them were WWII vets. My son Andrew became a Marine in 2007. When Andy came home from his time in Iraq, we had a party for him. Mr. and Mrs. Zukley attended Andy's party that day. Mr. Zukley personally thanked me for inviting them, and I told his it was our great honor to have them there with us.
We thank Mr. Zukley for his great courage, sacrifices and dedication to our nation during WWII, and for his many years of community service to the city of Zion. May God grant his soul eternal comfort, peace and rest.
There are not enough words to describe the character of the fine man, true American hero and the gentleman which Mr. Zukley was; he will forever remain a role model to us all.
Semper Fi, Mr. Zukley!
Respectfully and with our sincere condolences,
Tom and Kathy Schiera

So sorry to see Ray has passed on. He was a leader in the community who made a difference in many lives. Our family did business with Ray and Irene for years and it was always a pleasure. When we were young, the Jensen kids couldn't wait for the Easter egg hunt at Shiloh Park which Ray helped make happen. Thanks Ray, you'll be missed.
