Obituary of Edward John Jurista

Edward “Ted” John Jurista, 68, peacefully passed away November 19th at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago comforted by his wife, Diana. Ted was born August 26, 1947 to former Navy Chief Edward A. Jurista and Mary (Gibbons) in Norfolk, VA. He was their third of eight children and first son. Ted is survived by his daughters Dawn Nichols (Tony) and Denise Ferguson (Mitch), his grandchildren, Christopher (Kara) Doyle, Justin Galvan, Kama and Sage Ferguson; and great granddaughter, Alexandria Doyle. Also surviving are his sisters Mary Ann Sullivan, Janet (Phillip) Ardito, Janet Jurista and Eileen (Larry) Augustus; brother, Alan (Charlene) Jurista; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ted is preceded in death by both of his parents Edward and Mary; sister, Kathleen, brother, James; brother in law, Edmund Sullivan and niece and god daughter Stacey Sullivan. Ted enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and retired in 1975. For the next 33 years he worked at Picker, Gendex and retiring from Raytheon in 2008. Ted loved the Bears, his dogs and gardening. Most summers you could find him planting and harvesting his garden, relaxing in the backyard with his dogs and in winters watching football surrounded by his friends. He also enjoyed reading and in his younger years he was always available to help friends with any home improvement projects they may have had. The family will receive friends Friday, November 27th at 9:00 am with a funeral mass beginning at 10:00 am and lunch served immediately after at Our Lady of Humility church at 10655 W Wadsworth Rd, Beach Park, IL.
