Obituary of Mark L. Birky

Mark L. Birky, 66, of Beach Park, Illinois, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015. Mark was born April 19, 1948. He was a long time resident of Beach Park, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1966. He retired from Abbott Laboratories after 30+ years of service. Mark was an active board member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Zion. He was an avid golfer and Chicago Bears fan. Mark adored his grandchildren and always put his family first. Mark is survived by his daughters Cori (Brett) Unruh of Lakemoor, IL, and Meganne (Albert) Vrient of Granger, IN; four grandchildren Ashlynn and Easton Unruh, and Landen and Adalyn Vrient; sister Sharon Schultz of Southington, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Georgie Birky. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
