Obituary of Gladys Mares

Gladys “Faye” Mares, 64, of Beach Park, IL died February 3, 2015 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was born February 18, 1950 in Waukegan, IL. She worked at Vista Medical Center East (formerly Victory Hospital) in Waukegan for over 39 years. She will be missed by many friends and co-workers. Gladys is survived by her husband, James “Mike” Mares; children, David Brian (Jodi) VanLeer of Cranberry Township, PA, and Jamie Michele VanLeer of Beach Park, IL; step-children, Bill (Kris) Mares of Salisbury, NC, and Jimmie (Cristy) Mares of Pleasant Prairie, WI; grandchildren, Caleb and Emily VanLeer; step-grandchildren, Angela “Cat,” Ajay, Allison, Allen, Alex and Jessica; siblings, Nell (Gene) Johnson of Pleasant Prairie, WI , June (Eugene) Russell of Winthrop Harbor, IL , Helen Qualls of Arlington Heights, IL, and Eddie Powell of Zion, IL; 5 nieces; and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Velma Powell; a grandmother; an aunt, Kathleen Peoples; and brother-in-law, Jerry Qualls. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL.
