I too would like to extend my deepest condolences to Marcine & the entire Kreye Family. It has been many years since I was a Boy Scout but the memories are still vivid for me. I couldn't help but smile after reading Bill (Billy) & Ray Wuolo's recollections from their years in Troop 79. Mr. Kreye was synonomous w/ Troop 79. He (and his family) made Scouting a very special experience for many young men & their families. I remember one Saturday morning @ the Kreye's house several scouts & I were working on our Plumbing Merit Badge. Mr. Kreye was an accomplished plumber so naturally he was teaching us the finer points of fittings, flux, etc... My favorite Mr. Kreye phrase was "You's guys..." He would say it in conversation or amplify it to get our attention. He was one of a kind.

I will truely miss Dad very much. We had a lot of good times together up at the cabin especially when the girls were young and Dad and Mom came up with us. That was truely a lot of bonding time which we will truely treasure those memories forever and ever. Dad was truely a GREAT Husband - Dad - Father-in-law - Grandpa - & Great Grandpa. I loved making his Minced Meat pie for him on his Birthday, which brought a great big smile to his face! He enjoyed every bite too because he didn't have to share that pie with anyone because nobody else liked it, just him! We had a lot of family times with everyone too and it was fun seeing Dad sitting there just smiling at everyone. We will ALL miss that very much. I for one will miss him very very much. It will take a long time for my heart to heal, but I know that Dad is in HEAVEN now with the ANGELS looking down at all of us. He's at PEACE now, and at HOME now. I will always keep Dad close in my heart. Mom..... We are here for you always. Love, Debbie

Mr. Kreye was my Scoutmaster in Troop 79 and a true leader for which I have very fond memories. Few people undefined the level of character and stature of Mr. Kreye. He was an inspiration to me and a positive influence on countless youth throughout the Zion area. My heart goes out to the Kreye family in the passing of a remarkable man

I don't think there is hardly a day that goes by when I don't think of Mr. (and Mrs.) Kreye. As my Scoutmaster, Mr. Kreye (and he will always be "Mister Kreye" to me), quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) showed me what it means to be a man and that while it requires both time and effort, it is a responsibility and a privelege to serve others. Along with my Dad (who greatly admired and loved Mr. Kreye), he was the most important man in my life during my formative years. I have so many great memories. I remember when we used to go to Camp Hok-Si-La in Lake City for summer camp and his family camped on Lake Pepin, just around the bend - we would go visit them in the canoes. (A couple summers ago, my family spent Labor Day in Lake City and early in the morning, I walked through what is now Hok-Si-La city park and the memories just came flooding back). I also remember the time Gerry Sykora was shooting rubber bands in the very back of the Kreye's green and white van - as we started through an intersection, Gerry leaned back on the inner door latch and went spilling out onto the road. I remember the pancake breakfasts and my Dad thinning the batter, only to have Mr. Kreye thicken it back up (over and over again). And of course, I can't forget Saturday nights at camp, when Mr. Kreye made his famous dutch-oven cobbler. Two months ago, I was with one of my sons at Webelos outpost and that night the two camp counselors made dutch oven cake - almost to perfection but not up to Mr. Kreye's high standards. I think my son, Anders, may have grown sick of my continuous explanation of what cobbler should be. And any rememberence of Mr. Kreye cannot be left without a fond recollection of Troop 79's unofficial call: "Yous guys, shut up!" I would never have become an Eagle Scout, if not for Mr. Kreye. I'm a Cubmaster of a Pack in Minneapolis (that was probably inevitable) and there's little doubt that one day I will be Scoutmaster. Like many scout leaders, I have trouble getting parents to volunteer even for small roles. They worry, I know, that may be making a commitment that will, at times, be onerous. Yes, it is onerous. But I learned long ago from Mr. Kreye (and from Mrs. Kreye) that it is my responsibility and my privilage to serve.
