Obituary of Shirley Pickering

Shirley K. Pickering, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Wilmette, IL; and Park Ridge, IL, died on Sept. 18, 2011, in Zion, IL, at the age of 84. She was dearly loved by family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. Shirley was active in all the communities in which she resided through churches, choirs, public school systems, and other social services outreach activities. Survivors include her children Mike (Janet) Sale, Marty Sale, Ann (Jeffery) Kapp, and Tom (Janice) Sale; grandchildren Logan Baren, Ryan Sale, Justin Baren, Danny Sale, Chris Sale, Jennifer Sale, and Clay Sale; sisters-in-law Nancy Koester and Audrey Koester; and her long-time caregiver, Marlene Mayfield. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents George and Ethel Koester; first husband Robert Sale; second husband Albert Pickering; brothers George Koester, Robert Koester, and Marty Koester; sisters-in-law Joanne Potter, Jane Koester and Molly Sale; brothers-in-law William Sale and Lewis Sale; and her daughter-in-law Pam Sale. Shirley will be cremated. Her ashes will be spread by the family. The family will hold a private remembrance for her in IL, in Sept. A May 2012 memorial gathering is also planned for Shirley in Door County, WI. In lieu of flowers, please send donations Shirley's name to the American Cancer Society .
