Obituary of Barbara Clarke

Clarke, Barbara 89, of Waukegan, IL died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at Lake Forest Hospital. Barbara was born January 12, 1922, in Zenda, WI to Anton and Gertrude Stark. She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital Nursing School, and after graduating, became a member of the Armed Services. Barbara was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Lieutenant in the Nursing Corps of the United States Navy. She was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Seattle, WA, where they received hospital ships from the war. Barbara married John Clarke on June 11, 1949, which union lasted 59 years until John's death in 2008. She and John moved from Milwaukee to Waukegan in 1956 to establish and operate Clarke's One-Hour Martinizing, where they worked side-by-side until their retirement in 1996. Barbara loved to work in her flower garden and play golf. She was a member of Glen Flora Country Club since 1964. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Patricia (Steven) Misun of Racine, Wl; Suzanne Clarke of Waukegan, IL; and Timothy Clarke of Waukegan, IL; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, "Finnigan." She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sister, Marie (the late Don) Herst; brother, Anthony (the late Virginia) Stark; and her parents, Anton and Gertrude Stark. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 12:00 noon at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Avenue, Waukegan, IL. Interment will be Monday, September 12, 2011, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Harvard, IL. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at St. Dismas.
