Obituary of George Owens

Owens, George J. 84, of Lake Villa, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Hillcrest Nursing Center in Round Lake Beach, IL. George was born June 2, 1927, in Iron River, MI, and married Rosemary Schlosser on October 27, 1945, in Waukegan. He was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan and a current member of Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church in Gurnee. George retired from the A&P Tea Company after over 30 years of employment. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #78 in Waukegan and a veteran of the United States Army. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His main hobby was woodworking. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rosemary; sons, Gary (Joan) Owens of Antioch, IL, Thomas (Carol) Owens and Jeff Owens, both of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Jonathan, Derick, Scott, and Jason Owens; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Skowronski of Chicago, IL; brothers, Jasper (Nancy) Owens of Beach Park, IL, and William Matz of Nashville, TN; ; numerous nieces and nephews and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Ina Owens and a grandson, Douglas Owens. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will follow at Millburn Cemetery, Millburn, IL. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home
