Obituary of Violette Brockway

Violette E. Brockway, 101, peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Brookside Care Center. She was born in Ellsworth, WI on January 24, 1910 to Ira and Blanche Casperson, and upon her mother's early death, Violette was sent to Zion, IL to be raised by her Casperson grandparents. She met widower Glenn W. Brockway while employed at Zion Printing and the two were married on June 17, 1942 and co- parented Glenn's 2 small daughters, Gloria and Glendene. Glenn preceded Violette in death on March 1, 1986. Violette Brockway was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She volunteered for her church and belonged to several church clubs. In her later years she was often respectfully looked to as the spunky Matriarch of the neighborhood; she knew all that was going on and was always sociable with all of her neighbors. Violette had a huge soft spot for dogs, especially Cocker Spaniels and owned many in her lifetime. She was also a great collector of dolls and teddy bears. Violette will be deeply missed. Survivors include her daughters and sons in law; Gloria (Pat) Corcoran of Snydersville PA, Glendene (John)Wonders of Florissant. MO.; her grandchildren Craig Dietzman, Cari Young, Cindy Dietzman, Curt (Lesia)Dietzman, Johnny Jay Wonders, Jeff (Katie)Wonders, Jim(Margie)Wonders, Jason(Carrie)Wonders and Josh (Dawn) Wonders; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Visitation will be Monday, May 23, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday, May 24th, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., followed by a period of remembrance by friends and family. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
