Its a few days later and I am still wanting to wake up from the nightmare. It just doesn't seem real that he is actually gone. I was just in his band class only a year ago. Laughing when he would say some witty quote of his, or groan when we would watch Star Wars Episode 4 for like the billionth time. He was a huge inspiration to me and gave me a love for music that I didn't have before. He was taken way to soon. I am praying for "Frau" and Lukus, "Mama" Rymer and Rick, and the rest of the family. All of the memories. Freshman Weekend Trip to Chicago when we saw Wicked, All of the NIU Band Days, Seeing Blue Man Group, and Jersey Boys, but my favorite would have to be going to NYC, and being able to see so many great things. It will always be ingrained in my memory. God has an amazing trumpet player in his band now. RIP Mr. Rymer

To the family, students, colleagues, and friends of Mark, On behalf of music educators throughout IMEA and beyond, our heartfelt sympathy to you for your loss. The news has stunned us, but you were so much closer, and we know its impact on you is far beyond anything we could imagine. Please know that we feel your loss and our hearts go out to you. As you look for answers, you will discover there aren't any that satisfy, and that hole you feel in your heart will be felt for a very long time. We wish words could make it better, but we know they ring hollow to the devastating loss you feel. Take some comfort in knowing there are many of us who are aware, and we are sending showers of love, sympathy, and prayers to you. Each day is a gift that should be treasured. Find strength in how he lived his life and at the right time, move forward. Again, our deepest sympathies to all of you. I will never forget the look on my son's face when he found out about Mark even before he went to school. Ryan had been under Mark's leadership in band for 3 years now and we were some of the lucky ones to travel to New York with the band last year. This is a stark reminder to all of us that we need to live each moment as if it were going to be our last...with joy and love and anticipation of all that life has to offer. My heart goes out to all family and friends. Mark left a huge impact on this community and touched a lot of lives and I will do my best to focus on those positive things.

Most of us know him as our Band Director from ZBTHS. There he was our teacher, our mentor, our inspiration for our futures. He not only taught us in our music studies, he showed us his love for music. Everyday from the moment you entered the band room, to the end of the period, not a moment goes by when you don't think of music, and what an awesome teacher you have. I was there when he started at ZBTHS. I remember our first concert, and how nervous he was, and yet how proud of us he was after. He saw in us, what most of us couldn't see in ourselves yet. He brought out the confidence in our music, in ourselves and never doubted us. As for outside of school, he was a brother, a son, a husband and a father. My prayers go out to not only his family, but for his many friends whom we all will miss dearly. We will all miss his smile, his laughter, his teachings, his jokes. Most importantly, we will miss him. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." God Bless Michelle, Lukas, Rick, Vicki and his entire family and help them through this difficult time. My heart goes out to you. So sorry he was taken so soon. Forever will we keep him alive in memories!
