Obituary of Betty Hanson

Betty J. Hanson, 78, formerly of Zion, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at the Terrace Nursing Home, Waukegan. Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Betty was born May 3, 1932, in Itawamba County, MS, the oldest daughter of Oscar Bee and Lalia Young. Betty is survived by her children, Robert (Julie) Harmon of Beach Park, IL, and Bonnie (Jim) Stockton of Antioch, IL. She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Angelika (Erik) Solita, Debra Bell, Courtney Harmon, Chloe Stockton, Brianna Harmon, Andy Stockton, and Jenny (Jay) Ratliff; and great-grandson, Kenneth Harmon. Cherishing her memory are her siblings, James (Eunice) Young of Zion, IL, and Dorothy "Dot" (the late J.C.) Keeton of Red Bay, AL; and nieces, Brenda (Howard) Morrow and Melissa Young. She will also be missed by a host of extended family and friends. Betty worked many years at the Zion Industries Cookie Factory and eventually retired from Northwest Molding in Racine, WI. She shared many fond memories of her work at the Lake County Courthouse's Daycare Center. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Hanson; and by her parents. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion., with Rev. Jeffrey Koth of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Waukegan, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
