Obituary of William Overbey
William Lawrence "Larry" Overbey, 79, of Dyer, TN, went on to be with the Lord on January 20th, 2011.
He was born in Dyer, TN, November 7th, 1931. At the age of 5 he moved to the Waukegan area where her resided until his return to TN. He attended Waukegan High School and was the graduating class of 1951. He was then called by the Army to serve bravely in the Korean War where he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He was a former commander and lifetime member of the Purple Heart association and the V.F.W. of Winthrop Harbor. After his return from Korea he worked for Johnson Motors for over 30 years, he also worked as a police officer for Winthrop Harbor for over 10 years. After retirement he worked for several boat marinas in IL and TN.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters, Laurie (Phil Hanna) Flament of Waukegan, IL, Launa (Doug) Halas of Kenosha, WI, and Debbie (Clint) Peterson of Burlington, WI; one son, Johnny Overbey of Zion, IL; nine grandchildren, Chris (Cory) Flament, Sarah Halas, Ashley Hanna, Korrin, Dustin, Gracie Peterson, Joshua, Alaina, Matthew Overbey; three great-grandchildren, Jimi and Logan Overbey, and Noah Gemignani; two brothers, Joe Overbey of Volo, IL and Dennis (Mary) Overbey of Zion, IL; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, William C. Overbey and Elvie L. Overbey.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of our dearest William L, Overbey will be held at Grace Missonary Church, 1415 27th St., Zion, IL, at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 29th, 2011.
