Obituary of Margaret Rasmussen

Margaret Rose Rasmussen, age 70, was born in Alberta, Canada in 1939. At age 15, her parents passed away and Margaret and her sister Carole left the farm and moved to live with sister Helen and husband Arthur Urwin in Iowa. There Margaret attended special education classes and helped raise her five nieces and nephews. Margaret had a wonderful work ethic and was a dedicated employee for almost 25 years with the laundry team at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, Illinois. Margaret was able to maintain her own apartment and live an independent life with a little help from family and her dear friend Virgie Carpenter and her family in Zion. Margaret had a special ability to make friends and those who knew her well remember her hugs and unconditional love. A beautiful sister, Margaret left behind siblings Helen Urwin (Cincinnati, Ohio), Ruth (Gordon) Evans (Lethbridge, Alberta), Gladys Stromsmoe (Etzikom, Alberta), Carole (George) Hendrickson (Ann Arbor, Michigan), Walter (Mary-Rose) Rasmussen (Delta, B.C.) and Richard (Marion) Rasmussen (Medicine Hat, Alberta). Her parents Richard and Minda Rasmussen , brothers Lloyd and Gordon Rasmussen, and sister Violet Conquergood preceded her in death. Margaret loved her family dearly and became a very gracious and beloved person to all who knew her. During the last 18 months of her life, Margaret lived in Ann Arbor with sister Carole and her husband George. Margaret enjoyed visits and calls from her large extended family and the many new friends she made in Michigan. She was lovingly and gratefully served by the Homecare team of Arbor Hospice throughout the last year. The visitation will be held Friday, July 17, 2010 from 11:30 am until12:30 pm with a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the Biblical Baptist Church at 39236 N. Greenbay Road, Waukegan, with reception following. There will be a private gravesite ceremony for family. Memorials in Margaret's name may be given to The Residence of Arbor Hospice at 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, or the charity of your choice.
